Supporting trauma survivors by promoting healing, growth, and recovery

Welcome to your Peace, Survivor! I'm Maricia (Mah-ree-sah) Beach, the heart and soul behind Peace in Mind Counseling. I'm a Provisionally Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Tennessee, with a passion for helping people like you understand trauma and the root causes of its symptoms. Whether I'm helping a couple resolve conflict by understanding family-of-origin impacts and identifying triggers of trauma memories, or holding space for an individual struggling with life, I find joy in helping clients like you find answers to what trauma left behind.
The therapeutic space is where I provide empathy, uplift, and inspire survivors to keep moving forward. Here, you'll find a fusion of evidenced-based theories like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), sprinkled with a dash of candor and authenticity. I tell it, "like it is" because I want you to get the outcomes you deserve. I aim to help you connect your mind, body, and spirit back to the present, encourage growth and change, and hopefully, inspire you to keep going.
As a trauma survivor myself, I understand how difficult it can be living in a constant state of, “fight or flight”. I have spent almost 8 years in the mental health field working with trauma survivors young and old and the jewel in our crown is the resilience that we all share and the human spirit that won’t give up. I believe in the power of holistic healing, and I strive to see my clients realize how powerful they are in every area of their lives.
When I am not working with my clients, you can find me hanging out with my husband and three kids, working in my garden, or doing art. These things bring me joy and have caused me to move from a place of surviving to thriving. I hope I can help you do the same. Feel free to reach out—I'd love to connect and hear your story. Here's to embracing this journey together!
Warmest wishes,
Maricia :)
You've survived the trauma, now what? Now begins healing through the understanding of what has happened and why you're still struggling with symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I utilize mindfulness, education, body awareness, and evidenced-based techniques that work with the brain and body to begin putting the pieces back together. Using a trauma-informed model of recovery, you'll learn how to calm brain and body, how you're not crazy for feeling the way you feel, and how to reconnect back to the people in your life who truly love you, including yourself.
The first step towards transforming your life is to take action. Contact me today to schedule your initial consultation and start your journey towards a happier, healthier you.
I tell my couple clients all of the time, it is never about the thing we focus on. What this means is if we're getting mad about dirty dishes and burnt toast, there's something else going on under the surface that needs to be addressed. Most of the time though, the core issues never get addressed and this causes resentment and contempt to grow. Whether you've been together for 20 years or 20 months, understanding our individual stressors and what trauma we've brought into the relationship is pertinent in truly knowing ourselves and our partner. It's not just about knowing a favorite color or love language, it means learning how to support and provide an emotionally safe environment for the one we love.

As a trauma survivor, you truly are not alone. Many people have experiences and struggles that may be similar to you and groups are a great way to connect with others. Whether you're struggling with self-compassion, relationships, emotional regulation or single-parenting, there is a group for your needs. Groups are held twice a year and will be announced on this website as they are created.
If you have questions about support groups, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
