Supporting trauma survivors by promoting healing, growth, and recovery
Unknown
Welcome to your Peace! My name is Maricia (MAH-ree-sah) Beach and I believe in taking an outcome-focused approach to psychotherapy, helping to achieve change and promote healing. I am a survivor of childhood trauma myself, so I know what it's like to struggle with symptoms like anxiety and depression. My primary focus is trauma recovery and I can help you make connections with the past and present experiences, increase body and mind awareness, and feel emotionally safe with yourself and others. I love seeing clients like you experience breakthroughs in your own time. I have a background in education, so I love to teach new skills, and over 7 years of experience in the mental health field working with couples, adults, Veterans, active duty military, and others. I am temporarily licensed in Marriage and Family Therapy and will be meeting my full licensure requirements by the conclusion of 2024. I use evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, Gottman, and somatic-based (body) interventions to help with managing the outcomes of trauma and introduce you to different ways of coping. YOU are not the problem, trauma is the problem. So let's tackle this problem together!
Rooted in Judith Herman's three stages of trauma recovery (safety, remembrance and reconnection), individual therapy will consist of identifying how childhood trauma has impacted your current level of functioning. We will recognize our baseline emotional, "window of tolerance", challenge negative self-talk, debunk dysfunctional family messages, and begin to rebuild your life while learning how to connect back to your authentic self. Trauma-informed work will involve psychoeducation and body/mind connection work with methods from Dr. Janina Fisher and other trauma specialists in the field.
Couples work requires safety and stability for both partners. If there is a history of trauma, emotional safety will be achieved together with your partner by recognizing triggers, improving communication, resolving conflicts with self-soothing and strengthening your relationship overall. Techniques from Gottman and Narrative Therapy will be used to help you understand how to heal together.
Anxiety is a symptom of trauma, so along with the stages of trauma recovery, you will also learn practical tools to manage anxiety symptoms and improve your quality of life. Techniques used here will include Cognitive and Dialectical-based therapies.
Depression in all of its forms can be rooted in trauma. We can explore the deeper causes of your depression and learn effective coping strategies to improve your mood and overall well-being. You will learn mood tracking, self-compassion, and other methods to effectively handle the problem of depression.
Trauma therapy does not require you to talk about specific traumatic events. The neuroscience of trauma has changed drastically over the years. Somatic (body) work helps with acknowledging stuck emotions and help to really work through pain. Recovery is obtainable and trauma survivors like you can work through the effects of trauma and learn how to manage symptoms of PTSD.
